Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
Windward Community College’s Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program prepares students to provide quality care in long-term and clinical care settings. Over 14 weeks, students complete 106 hours of classroom instruction and 39 hours of supervised clinical training in a skilled nursing facility. Our program emphasizes professionalism, compassion, and cultural awareness rooted in Hawaiian values. Upon successful completion of the course and clinical hours, students will be awarded a certificate of professional development that will provide eligibility to apply for the Hawai’i State CNA Certification Exam.

Course Schedule

Program Total Hours: 150 hours (14 wks)
Phase 1: Orientation
Date: Saturday, March 28, 2026
Time: 8:00–10:00am (2 hrs)
Location: Windward CC, Hale Kuhina classroom
Purpose: Program overview: Meet your instructional team, review program expectations, confirm uniforms and supplies, hear from an employer partner, and get oriented to course materials and support resources.
Phase 2: Didactic / Classroom Week
Date: Mar 30 –May 23
Duration: 8 weeks
Days/Times: Mondays & Wednesdays: 8:00–11:00 am and Saturdays 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
Location: Windward CC, Hale Kuhina classroom
Total Didactic Hours: 104 hrs
Purpose: This phase includes classroom lectures, hands-on skills labs, and reflective learning activities designed to build a strong foundation in safe, compassionate caregiving.
Phase 3: Didactic Skills Check
Saturday, May 30, 2026
Time: 8:00 AM–2:00 PM
Location: Windward CC, Hale Kuhina classroom
Purpose: Students complete comprehensive skills check-offs to demonstrate readiness for clinical practice.
Phase 4: Clinical Immersion (on-site)
Date: Jun 6, 13, 20, Jul 11 (Jul 4 - holiday – no meeting)
Duration: 6 weeks
Days/Times: Saturdays 8:00 am – 2:00 pm (6 hrs/day) + 30 min prep (students arrive 30 mins early each day)
Total Hours: 39 hrs

Purpose: Students will complete supervised clinical training at a local long-term care facility, applying classroom knowledge in a real healthcare environment. Upon successful completion of clinicals, students are eligible to seek employment as Nurse Aides.

Purpose: Exam to obtain Hawaii state certification.
REQUIRED TECHNOLOGY:

1. Must pass EDReady with a score of 50 or more. Free placement test administered at WCC Learning Center.
2. Physical examination by a licensed healthcare provider
3. Two-step TB skin test (within the last 12 months) or blood test (T-SPOT or QuantiFERON); plus TB symptom screen
4. MMR immunizations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
5. Influenza vaccine (annual, during flu season)
6. Criminal background check
7. High school diploma
8. Personal computer/tablet and access to reliable high speed Internet access (Laptop loaners and/or mobile hotspots may be available upon request.)
9. Must be computer literate, able to work in online learning management platform

Acute Care Nurse's Aide
Adventist Health Castle offers hands-on training to successfully transition applicants into a Nurse Aide role. The program includes classroom curriculum, simulation for skills practice and testing, and on-the-job training in clinical units. Students learn essential skills such as obtaining vital signs, bathing, grooming, positioning, toileting, ambulating, and other aide duties. The program also covers legal rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting, and assisting individuals in maintaining basic comfort, independence, and safety. After completing the course and clinical hours, participants will receive a certificate of professional development from Windward Community College and transition into an acute care nurse aide role at Adventist Health Castle.
PREREQUISITE
Participants must pass AHCS' screening requirements, including an interview.

Medical Assistant
The Medical Assistant (MA) Program is a paid training program located at Adventist Health Castle and offers hands-on training to successfully transition applicants into a Medical Assistant role. The program includes classroom and online curriculum, simulation for skills practice, testing, and on-the-job training at our clinic sites. Students learn essentials skills including introduction to healthcare, front office skills, medical terminology, medical records, medical equipment, interpersonal skills, anatomy and disease process, anatomy, vital signs, medical insurance, patient exam, medical ethics, legal responsibilities, laboratory testing, pharmacology, and surgical procedures. This 10-week, intensive, Medical Assistant Training Program will prepare individuals to take the Medical Assistant Certification test upon completion of the curriculum, precepted hours and one year of experience. Participants will receive a certificate of professional development from Windward Community College and transition into a Medical Assistant role at Adventist Health Castle after completing the online course, classroom didactic, skills testing, and preceptorship hours.
