Ever wondered why your clothes don't fit and feel right ? It's not you, they were not designed to fit all body shapes and sizes. Learn what a good fit feels and looks like on YOU and how to do it over and over again so you feel fabulous in all the stuff you OWN!!!

In this series of classes we will tackle a type of garment or skill each month to transform your closet into a place you love using basic sewing and alteration skills. Bring a garment from your closet to class and learn how to fit or repair it, then go home and fix everything like it that you own.

Have you noticed that clothes purchased off the rack never fits you quite right. Learn the tricks to better fitting clothes that makes you look and feel great! Through the use of some basic sewing and alterations skills you can fill your closet with things you love.  

In this class you will learn two different kinds of hems–the turn and sew everyday hem and the manufacturer/original hem. You will also learn how to taper the leg of a pair of pants. Some refreshments will be provided.

What you need to bring from home: Bring 2 pair of pants and a skirt you want to change the length on, we might not get to all of them but we will definitely get through two of them.

In this class you will learn how to take in the waist band on pants and jeans.  Sometimes the hips and the waist just don’t match up so you often choose one fit over the other and make the best of it.  Not anymore!  We can turn those pants into something fabulous with a little alternation.  Some refreshments will be provided.

What you need to bring from home: Bring along two pair of pants or jeans that the waist is either too big or too small or is somehow off. For example if you are “short waisted” all your pants tend to button too high up on your body. Bring pants that almost sort of fit and let's make them fit.

In this class you will learn how to alter tops and dresses to fit at shoulders and waist. Sometimes we have to buy something that fits in once spot but not in another. We can fix some of that. Some refreshments will be provided.

What you need to bring from home: Bring 2 or 3 tops that are falling off your shoulders or where the middle section could fit better by taking it in. The fixes might be so quick you can do more then one.

Has your favorite jacket or dress lost its zip? Learn how you can save it! To get it right sometimes you have to change out the zipper and it is not as bad as you think. Some refreshments will be provided.

What you need to bring from home: Bring a couple garments with a zipper issue and we will correct it. You will need to bring a matching zipper as well - matching matters.  If you are taking this class please email me at  kamuela@sewkailua.com with a photo of 2 garments or pillows you want to repair and I will tell you what kind of zipper you need to get. I will have some zippers on hand but it's better to have the perfect one.

Kamuela Klemmer is a Kailua native that has been sewing for over 45 years and teaching for 15 years. She owns a small sewing studio called Sew Kailua.

Kamuela holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and has taught in the classroom for many years. She is thrilled to watch people discover what their hands can do and how sewing a simple item can bring so much joy.
