Introduction to Veterinary Medicine

Course Description

Do you dream about working with animals? Explore careers in veterinary medicine through WCC’s “Introduction to Veterinary Medicine” course. This Introduction course to Veterinary Medicine and Careers in the Veterinary Industry gives learners an opportunity to explore aspects of the College’s Associate’s Degree and Certificates programs in veterinary medicine without the one to two year-long commitment. The course is intended for learners who have little or no college experience. It provides an overview of the basic knowledge and skills required to work in a veterinarian’s office, animal shelter or animal research facility.

Online Learning

On-Line Coached Instruction
Online instruction will be led by a certified veterinary technician instructor and learning coach who will engage with students throughout the entire course. The online materials is self-paced and flexible with suggested completion dates to help students
stay on schedule. At the end of the course learners will have the opportunity to shadow a student in training at the Windward CC - Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Learners literally get to “try before you buy” to see if a career working with animals is for them. This introductory course includes a fast-paced online instruction coupled with a hands-on “day learning experience at the end. Because the 30-36 hour online portion is self-paced, learners can explore without changing current work or home obligations. No previous college experience is necessary. This course is intended for those with a high school diplomas, or soon to graduate.

Course Duration & Dates

Course dates: October 29–December 10
Duration: 1 in-person meeting, 6 modules, 6 weeks

registered students.

Online & Hands-on Module Completion

Students will have 6 weeks to complete the 30-36 hour online portion (6 modules requiring up to 6 hours each to complete) and 1 day to complete the hands-on learning experience.
