Hiilaniwai Foodservice Innovations

Windward Community College - Career and Community Education has developed a new culinary/foodservice training program called Hiilaniwai Foodservice Innovations Training (HiFIT) and the Uala Leaf Cafe.

HiFIT is a workforce program that will teach students the basic skills that are needed in the foodservice industry. It will take students from foundational knife skills all the way through to a graduation project which includes a comprehensive final where students will prepare a chicken dinner in a specified amount of time.

On The Job Training at the Uala Leaf Cafe

The Uala Leaf Cafe is the operations portion of the HiFIT program and is also used as the On The Job (OJT)training experience of HiFIT.

We welcome you to Uala Leaf Cafe, serving affordable local favorites and healthy options. We are a Blue Zones Project ApprovedTM Restaurant. Open to the public. Summer hours: Monday–Thursday (closed Friday), 11:30 am–1:00 pm, except state holidays and otherwise noted. Please visit our website for more information, complete menu and weekly specials.
“We have to learn different cultural backgrounds to appreciate the food and where it originated from... and be inspired in all the little things we do.”

- Reny Lagsca, HARIETT student

“I really enjoyed this class and learned so much. It was hard, but I learned very good lessons on how not to give up when the pressure is on.”

- Lisa Hao, HARIETT student
