Accounting Skills for New Supervisors

Many of us flinch when we hear terms like depreciation, cash flow, balance sheet, and (worst of all!) budgets. However, these are all important concepts to understand if you’re going to succeed in today’s business world, particularly as a supervisor. Even better, financial terms are not as scary as they seem!

  • Explain how a chart of accounts is created
  • Tell the difference between cash and accrual accounting
  • Explain single-entry and double-entry bookkeeping
  • Differentiate between debits and credits
  • Identify and analyze important financial data and make financial decisions
  • Read annual reports
  • Determine whether a company is financially high or low risk

Classes run every other Monday on a continuous basis, except major holidays.

Nicole Combs received her PhD Organization and Management from Capella University, MBA from California State University Dominguez Hills, and BS in Business Management University of Phoenix.
 
Nicole is a part-time instructor for several colleges. Additionally, she teaches at Kauai High School, and is a former vice principal and teacher of a charter school (K-12) in California. Having earned both her Master’s and now PhD from online programs, she is highly involved in distance education. Her dissertation topic was “ student perceptions of faculty effectiveness in online learning.” She recently completed a new AA degree in Virtual Assisting.
